4th November. Fine day. Went for a ride with Anson after lunch but so beastly and muddy everywhere we didn’t go far.

5th November. Up to the same piece of line again. Wet weather. Aid Post completed – a hole about 6 feet by 10, flush with the bottom of the trench and about 5 feet deep, timber supports holding a splinter proof roof of corrugated iron with about 2 layers of sandbags on top and some loose earth. I used this to dress cases in. Some trench boards on the floor. Connected by a passage about 6 feet long was another shelter just the same with a frame to lay 4 stretchers on which I used to stow the wounded on after they were dressed. Had some braziers.
